Brad Scott never planned on a career in pumps.

Growing up, he worked around his father’s industrial distributorship, helping with shipping, receiving, and sales. But after earning a master’s degree in psychology, he was convinced his future was headed in a different direction.

Then a phone call from his brother changed everything.

Today, Brad serves as Regional Account Engineer at Integrity Pump & Motor, helping customers across the country solve complex pumping challenges. And while he may have found his way back into the industry, he brought something unexpected with him: an understanding of people.

“I actually went to school for psychology, so that helps,” Brad says. “I learn my customers’ personalities. I learn their attitudes. I adapt how I speak to them.”

That approach helped him solve one of his most memorable customer challenges. An aggregate mining operation was preparing to spend more than $100,000 on stainless steel pumps after repeated failures. Brad dug deeper, asked more questions, and discovered the real issue wasn’t the material at all. The pumps were operating outside their design conditions and experiencing cavitation.

Instead of selling a more expensive pump, he designed a solution that worked at both operating points and saved the customer a significant investment.

It’s a philosophy that’s earned trust throughout his career. One customer has followed Brad through three different pump manufacturers over more than a decade.

When asked what customers don’t realize about successful pump solutions, Brad puts it simply:

“You learn a lot by making mistakes. As long as you learn from those mistakes and don’t repeat them, that’s progress.”

Outside of work, Brad’s favorite title isn’t engineer—it’s Papaw. He loves being a grandad and spending time with his grandson, while preparing for grandchild number two coming in the fall.
